So wrote Andrew Clements in The Guardian after Marc-André Hamelin's Wigmore Hall recital on 14 January 1996. This recording of his all-Liszt programme was made in the Hall on the same day and includes the pianist's own staggering cadenza to the Hungarian Rhapsody No 2.
